Robert Laird Borden (Leader of the Official Opposition)
Conservative (1867-1942)
Mr. BORDEN (Halifax).
Is the proviso in this section that the answer of a witness may not be used against him ?
Bill (No. 66) further to amend the Canada Evidence Act, 1803 (the Solicitor General), read the second time, and House went into committee thereon. On section 1,
Mr. BORDEN (Halifax).
Is the proviso in this section that the answer of a witness may not be used against him ?
The statute now makes provision that the answer of a witness shall not be available against him in inquiries over which this parliament has jurisdiction. The intention is to extend this proviso to inquiries under a statute of a province.
Mr. BORDEN (Halifax).
I should think it a very proper amendment.
Bill reported, read the third time, and passed.
The MINISTER OF MARINE AND FISHERIES (Sir Louis Davies) moved the adjournment of the House.
Mr. BORDEN (Halifax).
What business may we expect to-morrow ?
The MINISTER OF MARINE AND
FISHERIES. There may be a few of the Bills on the Order paper taken first, after which we will go into supply.
Mr. BORDEN (Halifax).
What supply ?
The MINISTER OF MARINE AND
FISHERIES. Public Works, if my hon. friend (Hon. Mr. Tarte) is well enough, as he is to-day.
Mr. BORDEN (Halifax).
And if not. what ?
The MINISTER OF MARINE AND
FISHERIES. If he is not well, we will go on with justice.
Motion agreed to, and House adjourned at 11.20 p.m.
Mr. BORDEN (Halifax).
