Mr. ROGERS:

The matter has not come to my notice, neither has it been brought to the deputy's attention. It may be in the department; we will look it up.

Mr. PUGSLEY:

I saw a statement in

regard to the matter in a news-

5 p.m. paper some time ago. If the minister could see his way clear to grant the request, it would be a great public convenience.

Does the minister's department retain control of drill halls and armouries after they have 'been built, or are they handed over to the Militia Department? .

Mr. PUGSLEY:

The reason I ask is this. The magnificent armoury which was constructed at St. John and which was intended to be used for the troops, has been converted into a hospital, I am told. It is certainly not adapted to that purpose, and it certainly is diverting the building from the purpose for which it was constructed, even though it is only for a time. I think it is unfortunate that a hospital could not have been got somewhere else, or other arrangements made. I have heard that there is quite a strong feeling amongst the citizens of St. John that a great mistake has been made in this respect. I thought the minister might know something about it, but if the matter is entirely in the hands of the Militia Department, information, of course, can be sought from the Minister of Militia.
