Mr. MEIGHEN:

I do not know what he

needs to be translating into French or English either in the Mines department. Then we have a peat specialist still, although the peat work is done; next we have a chief taxidermist and herpetologist, a cartographer, an artist in vertebrate palaeontology and two assistant artists, an assistant ethnologist, two collector preparator specialists, an assistant invertebrate palaiontologist, three senior collector preparators, and so on. Who is the real author of these names? I have not mentioned the herbarium assistant. Several officials have left the department I know, but it does

really look as though there were a lot of men engaged in doing something which does not seem to me to be connected with mineralogy.

Quite true; all those strange names come from the museum.
