CUSTOMS ACT AMENDMENT

PREVENTION OF SMUGGLING


Hon. W. D. EULER (Minister of National Revenue) moved that the house go into committee at the next sitting to consider the following proposed resolution: Resolved, that the Customs Act, chapter 42 of the revised statutes, 1927, be amended to make provision for a more adequate enforcement of the act and the prevention of smuggling operations in the territorial waters of Canada. He said: His Excellency the Governor General, having been made acquainted with the subject matter of this resolution, recommends it to the favourable consideration of the house. Motion agreed to.


DEPARTMENT OF NATIONAL REVENUE ACT AMENDMENT

APPOINTMENT AND SALARIES OF OFFICERS


Mr. EULER moved that the house go into committee at the next sitting to consider the following proposed resolution: Resolved, that the Department of National Revenue Act be amended to provide that the minister be empowered to appoint certain classes of officers with such salaries or remuneration as may be determined by the governor in council, and that a gratuity may be paid any officer on retirement in lieu of a period of leave of absence with pay, with further provisions as to filling vacaniees by transfers and promotions for the betterment of the service. He said: His Excellency the Governor General having been made acquainted with the subject matter of this resolution, recommends it to the favourable consideration of the house. Motion agreed to.


SPECIAL WAR REVENUE ACT AMENDMENT

EXEMPTIONS, PENALTIES, ENFORCEMENT


Mr. EULER moved that the house go into committee at the next sitting to consider the following proposed resolution: Resolved, that the Special War Revenue Act be amended by repealing the exemption on certain articles and materials, not to include permanent equipment which enters into the cost of manufacture or production of goods, and by further provisions in respect to the imposition of penalties, and for the better enforcement of the act. He said: His Excellency the Governor General, having been made acquainted with the subject matter of this resolution, recommends it to the favourable consideration of the house. Motion agreed to.
