Mr. BENNETT: (Prime Minister; President of the Privy Council; Secretary of State for External Affairs)

Conservative (1867-1942)

1. The holders of the $30,000,000 6 per cent collateral trust bonds of the Beauharnois Light, Heat and Power Company held a meeting called in accordance with the provisions of the trust mortgage deed securing the said bonds, default having been made in the payment of the interest thereon, and elected a committee to deal with the situation. A further meeting of such bond holders will consider a plan prepared by the committee, which involves certain action being taken by the Dominion government if 'the plan is acceptable to the bond holders.

2. The government is aware of no reason why any interested person might not submit a plan for reorganization of the company to the committee of the bond holders. In the event of any plan being submitted, it would be for the committee to consider what appropriate action should be taken, but the committee would undoubtedly ascertain the views of the government with respect to its guarantee. The committee of the bond holders is charged with the responsibility of dealing with the plans for reorganization of the enterprise, and not the government.
