Mr. Speaker, under standing order 31 I beg leave to move the adjournment of the house for the purpose of discussing a definite matter of urgent public importance, namely, the serious situation in Regina accompanied by loss of life.
Right Hon. R. B. BENNETT (Prime Minister):
Mr. Speaker, if the hon. member would permit me, may I say that we will move to go into supply to afford him an opportunity this afternoon to discuss the matter he desires to discuss.
Mr. WOODSWORTH:
When do we go into supply?
Mr. BENNETT:
Some time this afternoon we will make the motion. So far as that is concerned, we can make it the first order.
Mr. WOODSWORTH:
That will be definitely this afternoon?
Mr. BENNETT:
It will be the first order of business.
Mr. THOMAS REID (New Westminster):
Mr. Speaker, I should like to ask a question of the Prime Minister. On February 4 of this year on behalf of the government of British Columbia I lodged an appeal to the governor in council against the decision of the board of railway commissioners refusing to grant a reduction in freight rates on grain for feeding purposes from the prairie provinces to British Columbia. When may we expect the privy council to deal with the matter?
Right Hon. R. B. BENNETT (Prime Minister):
Mr. Speaker, it is obviously very difficult to deal with matters of this kind when
the house is in session because arguments have to be heard. All appeals of this character have usually been sent back to the technical officers of the board of railway commissioners for a report.
