CIVIL SERVICE

SPECIAL COMMITTEE TO INQUIRE INTO OPERATION OF CIVIL SERVICE ACT-FIRST REPORT CONCURRED IN

Mr. JEAN-FRANGOIS POULIOT (Temis-couata) moved that the first report of the special committee appointed to inquire into the operations of the Civil Service Act be concurred in. He said: It has been agreed that the evidence and not the discussion will be printed in connection with this committee, and therefore I move the adoption of the first report. Hon. CHARLES A. DUNNING (Minister of Finance): I concur entirely in the proposal of the chairman of the committee, but this affords an opportunity to say that there is a rule of the house with respect to the printing of evidence given in committees. On examination I find that this arrangement will not constitute a discrimination against this particular committee, because it is in fact a rule that only the evidence shall be taken and printed. I say this for the guidance of other committee chairmen who may have the same difficulty.

BRITISH COLUMBIA AND YUKON

INQUIRY AS TO FURTHER CORRESPONDENCE

On the orders of the day: Mr. A. W. NEILL (Comox-Alberni); I should like to ask a question of the Minister of Mines and Resources (Mr. Crerar). The other day he brought down a return of correspondence asked for by the hon. member for the Yukon (Mrs. Black). That return consisted of correspondence from April 1, 1937, but the file shows that there are other letters which have not been brought down. Would the minister mind bringing down the correspondence, say, back to April 1, 1936? It will be necessary to make the thing clear.

Hon. T. A. CRERAR (Minister of Mines and Resources):

There is no objection to that; it can be brought down.
