Mr. COLDWELL:

The minister was asked if work was being done in southwestern Saskatchewan. Are there not some leases to be worked in southeastern Saskatchewan?

Mr. CRERAR:

No. I do not think we

have had any warrant for carrying on work there. After all, the department is guided by its trained men, its geologists, as to where the money will be spent.

Mr. FAIR. Can the minister give information with regard to the development at Wainwright?

Mr. CRERAR:

I should have said a moment ago that work is being carried on on the seismograph principle. I hope no hon. member will ask me to explain it, because I do not know anything about it; but it is, I am informed, a scientific method of prospecting by

means that are somewhat new, and some of that seismographic work is being carried on in the Wainwright field.

Mr. CRERAR:

They drill holes in the ground and set off a blast of dynamite, and that is recorded on machines. Those who are qualified and experienced in the work can determine from the records made on the machines, or at least they can make a pretty shrewd guess, whether or not there is any oil underneath.

Are they made up of parties that are going out under the auspices of the Imperial Oil? There are parties going out drilling, sent by Imperial Oil. Is a part of this going to assist them?
