BRANDON MILITARY HOSPITAL-CARE OF TUBERCULAR INDIANS

LIB

Paul Joseph James Martin (Minister of National Health and Welfare)

Liberal

Hon. PAUL MARTIN (Minister of National Health and Welfare):

I wish to supplement

a reply that I made to the hon. member for Brandon (Mr. Matthews) in reply to a question which he asked me on Friday last and which I did not fully answer. He asked as to the transfer of the Brandon military hospital to the Department of National Health and Welfare. Since last Wednesday one of our investigators has been sent out to Brandon to investigate the cause and the nature of the damage resulting from the fire in that hospital a short time ago. A special investigator is now in western Canada and has been instructed to look into this matter and submit a report on what repairs or alterations are necessary. It is understood that the fire was confined to the administration wing. It is presumed that the administration work can be carried out in another wing of the building without rebuilding and with only a relatively small reduction in the future bed capacity of the hospital.
