FURTHER MESSAGES OF GREETINGS AND GOOD


Right Hon. W. L. MACKENZIE KING. (Prime Minister) : Mr. Speaker, in reference to the congratulatory messages of which I made mention in the house yesterday, I should like to add that the following message was received during the day from the President of the United States: On this national anniversary of Canada it gives me great pleasure to send to you ansi to the people of Canada the hearty congratulations and renewed good wishes of the people of the United States. I should like to take this occasion again to thank you and the many other Canadians who did so much to give me a most enjoyable visit last month. I cannot express too warmly my sincere friendship for you and for the people of Canada. Harry S. Truman. Congratulatory messages were also received from the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile, from the Ambassador of Belgium in Ottawa, and from the Consul General of Haiti.

ESTABLISHMENT FROM ARMY CANTEEN AND OTHER SERVICE FUNDS-PROVISION FOR BOARD OF ADMINISTRATION


Right Hon. IAN A. MACKENZIE (Minister of Veterans Affairs, for Mr. Claxton) moved for leave to introduce Bill No. 410, to establish a benevolent fund from army canteen and other service funds. He said: May I say on behalf of the Minister of National Defence that I should like this bill to be proceeded with. The Minister of National Defence will pilot the bill through the house, along with the hon. member for Rosthern (Mr. Tucker) and the hon. member for Winnipeg South (Mr. Mutch), who was chairman of the committee.
