Mr. Speaker:

I would point out to the hon. member that the rules require that questions asked on the orders of the day should be brief, and I would ask him to govern himself accordingly.

Mr. Manross:

Does the Minister of Finance know that there is an error with regard to the tax on soft drinks? The article says that they are taxed twice. The fact is that they are taxed three times-8 per cent, 25 per cent and one cent per bottle.

Gladys Grace Mae Strum

Mrs. Gladys Strum (Qu'Appelle):

I should like to direct a question to the Secretary of State for External Affairs. What steps has he taken to comply with the request of Premier McNair of New Brunswick for assistance in investigating the baby black market operating out of Saint John, New Brunswick? Can the minister give any assurance that the government has taken action to stop the traffic in babies as revealed by the Alberta royal commission investigation of 1947?

Is not the citizenship of Canadian babies involved, and does that not come under the minister's department?
