Is the government giving active consideration to the recommendation of the Fowler commission respecting the establishment of a French language television station at Moncton, New Brunswick?
Answer by: Hon. G. C. Nowlan (Minister of National Revenue):
Regarding the possible establishment of a French language television station at Moncton the commission said only that "a study of the matter should be made at an early date". Under existing licensing policies an application could be made for a privately owned French language television station at Moncton to which the C.B.C. would supply national program service in French. The possibility of
a C.B.C. owned station could be studied after consideration by parliament on matters of the financing and structure of the broadcasting system arising from the report of the Fowler commission.
