Some hon. Members:
Shame.
Shame.
Mr. Speaker:
Order.
Wave the flag.
Mr. Schneider:
You are not in the police court now.
Mr. Gauthier (Portneuf):
That's a lie.
Mr. Pearson:
Mr. Speaker, on a point of order; the Prime Minister has seen fit to mention me by name in respect of the commonwealth. May I say that the statement he has made is contemptibly inaccurate.
Mr. Diefenbaker:
I will not reply to that in kind.
Mr. Chevrier:
What have you been doing all evening?
Mr. Diefenbaker:
I will simply say to the hon. gentleman: Do you remember the United Nations in 1956?
Mr. Pearson:
Indeed, I do.
Mr. Diefenbaker:
I ask my hon. friend over and over again to read his speeches in the house on external affairs and he may himself find out that the facts are exactly as I stated.
Suggested Resignation of Government
Mr. Gauthier (Porlneuf):
That's a lie.
Mr. Diefenbaker:
I continue:
Canada will obviously have to take some kind of remedial action.
What a phony.
Mr. Diefenbaker:
These are the people who are interrupting.
Mr. Brown (Essex West):
Don't point over here.
Mr. Diefenbaker:
These are the people who have drawn an amendment to be absolutely sure that they will not be found out. I ask my hon. friend what kind of remedial action he would take? He says it is wrong to stand up. He ridiculed us because we stood up, and actually got a certain amount of pleasure out of saying that we were slapped down when we only talked. What is the remedial action that we did not have between 1935 and 1957?
Progress.
Mr. Lesage:
Prosperity.
Mr. Speaker:
Order.
