Mr. Fleming (Eglinlon):

1. As indicated in the figures published in the Canada Gazette of April 7, 1962, Canada's official holdings of gold and U.S. dollars as of March 31, 1962 amounted to $1,709.4 million in terms of U.S. dollars.

2. The annual reports tabled by the Minister of Finance under the Currency, Mint and Exchange Fund Act since 1953 have provided figures of the over-all position of the exchange fund account from which it is possible to deduce the net amount of forward exchange contracts and overnight contracts outstanding as at the end of each month of the preceding year. It has not been the practice to publish this information on a more current basis.
