Stanley Howard Knowles (Whip of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation)

Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (C.C.F.)

Mr. Stanley Knowles (Winnipeg North Centre):

I should like to ask a question, Mr. Speaker, with regard to the internal economy commission. I believe Your Honour is chairman of that commission, but since questions
cannot be put to you on the floor of the house, I should like to put my question to the Minister of Public Works. Has the internal economy commission had an opportunity to meet for the purpose of considering rates of pay and other matters pertaining to House of Commons employees? If not, can a meeting be held soon? If a meeting has been held, will an announcement be made as to any decisions reached?
Hon. Alphonse Fournier (Minister of Public
Works): As to the first question, the answer is yes. The commission sat on Wednesday afternoon, March 1. The second question is answered by the answer to the first one. The answer to the last question is that I hope so, but I would not want to give a final answer before consulting the other members of the commission.
