1. Up to the 31st October, 1909, the average expenditure per mile of the ' prairie section ' as returned by the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway Company is $35,360.64. The average cost as certified to by the auditor of the Railway Department and the government engineer of the western division of the National Transcontinental railway, as being the amount for which the government is liable under the guarantee agreements with the Grand Trunk Pacific railway is $33,718.62. Unable to give information by provinces, as it is not kept in that manner.
2. The return is certified to by the president, third vice-president, and assistant chief engineer of the company, and after audit by Mr. G. A. Bell, departmental auditor of the Department of Railways and Canals, a similar certificate of cost on which is based the government's liability under the guarantee agreement is certified to by Mr. Collingwood Schreiber, C.M.G., government chief engineer of the western division of the National Transcontinental railway.
