Mr. MACLEAN.

Perhaps the hon. gentleman thinks that both go with public ownership, and may be they do, but public ownership tends to exalt patriotism as nothing else does, and railways, telegraphs, and telephones run by the state are run in the interest of the state, whereas under private ownership they are run in the interest of the corporations that own them.
