Why did not you recommend it at first ?

Mr. SHERRITT.
Had you not a tender from a syndicate at the head of which was one McTavish ?
'Mr. HYMAN. I have not a list of those who tendered. I have only the name of the lowest tenderer. It would not have made any difference, because a proportionate amount taken off any of the higher tenders would still leave it lower than the lowest original tender.

Mr. SHERRITT.
I am not speaking positively. For the payment of a1' little over $10,000 it does seem to me It would be in the public interest to continue that work to the full extent first intended. As '1 am better acquainted with that place than other members of the House I may say that it
strikes me that the sandbar there may cause sand to drift in. Possibly the engineer was relying upon the existence of this sandbar when he came to the conclusion that it would not be necessary to run it out the 600 feet. I fear that the sand may drift in and perhaps leave the work done practically useless. I think the minister might consider the continuing of that work in accordance with the original specification.
