Mr. MEDERIC MARTIN:
The war commenced on the 4th of August, 1914, and the mayor of Montreal had a resolution passed on the 5th of August stating that all employees of the city of Montreal who enlisted for overseas service would be paid their salaries while they were absent. In other provinces, that was not done. In Quebec we have done many things like that to encourage recruiting. Did the Government take that action in connection with civil servants?
