Mr. Speaker, I would expect that this matter will be referred to the standing committee in the fall of the year, and I would expect that the preliminary work which is going to be done by the officials of the Royal Canadian Legion and our own officials would be a very necessary preliminary to any reference to the standing committee.

Mr. Speaker, I think it would satisfy the hon. member if I told him we had a meeting yesterday with the president of the Royal Canadian Legion and a number of his executives. We are exchanging letters on Monday by which our officials with his officials will work on such a committee doing the preliminary and factual work during the summertime.

Mr. Speaker, I have said that I would have no objection at all if this matter were referred to the Standing Committees on Veterans Affairs. In addition, the president and certain officers of the Royal Canadian Legion are to meet me within a week to discuss the same matter.
