Most Recent Speeches (Page 3 of 2289)
June 29, 1923
Mr. FIELDING:
Nothing that I know of. I think in the Department of Agriculture some (.f the officials are provided with houses on the farms, but I think that is taken into consideration. As regards the deputies concerned in this vote, they have no perquisites whatever.

Mr. FIELDING:
What does my hon.
friend think would be right?
June 29, 1923
Mr. FIELDING:
We have generally
adopted the rule to give the Acting Auditor General all the assistance he requires in order to induce him to get out the documents promptly. I do not know how it was with my honourable friend, but I have always told the Acting Auditor General that I relied on him to be reasonable and I have never refused him any increase in staff at a time when it was urgent that the public documents be got out promptly.

Mr. FIELDING:
I have not read the file but I have heard the case explained by the Minister of Railways, and supported by his officials. I was satisfied from the information furnished that it was a fair and just claim, and I consented to having it put in the sup-plementaries. I am sure the Minister of Railways will be prepared to explain the matter to the hon. member.

Mr. FIELDING:
Were they not obligations chargeable on the country?
