As the result of discussions with provincial authorities about the proposed medicare program, or through other means, is it within the knowledge of the federal government what is the annual cost of that portion of the present medical care program in British Columbia which is paid out of tax money in that province and, if so, what is the amount?

2. On the basis of current statistics, what will be the cost to the treasury of British Columbia, in a full year, of the medicare program as provided under the federal legislation of 1966, if the program goes into effect with respect to B.C. on July 1, 1968?

Hon. E. D. Fulton (Kamloops):

Mr. Speaker, I had been hoping to direct a question to the Secretary of State. On Wednesday last the hon. lady was good enough to say she would seek to ascertain the reason my question No. 727 had not yet been answered. I am wondering whether the hon. lady has obtained the information necessary in order that this question can be answered.

Mr. Fulton:

Mr. Speaker, I should like to ask the Prime Minister a supplementary question. Would the right hon. gentleman be good enough to take a look at question No. 727 and see if he does not agree with me that it specifically asks whether certain information is in the possession of the government, and, if so, that that information be given. Would the right hon. gentleman take a look at this question and see that the rules and customs of this house are maintained and that the privileges of members are protected by giving an answer to it without further delay?

Mr. Fulton:

Mr. Speaker, I was asking the Prime Minister whether he would see to it that this record is not spoiled by failing to answer question No. 727.
