1 do not know whether

the minister has explained what seems an excessive charge for Dr. Patterson. I see charges $20 a day. That is as much as a cabinet minister receives.

Mr. B. ROSAMOND.

I would like to add a word to what has been said by the hon. member for West Toronto (Mr. Clarke). Some twelve or thirteen of these Austrians found their way to the town of Almonte, in my constituency a few days ago, and they are perfectly helpless so far as making their wants known or conversing with any person is concerned. I am told they are Austrians who had no means of support or of going any farther, and they are dependent on the charity of the people of Almonte for a place to sleep in and for food. I think it is very unreasonable that

a steamship company should be allowed to launch these people on the country without means of support or of going forward to their place of destination. I therefore hope that the government will take some steps to remedy evils of this kind.

The company is already incorporated under Act of the Ontario legislature, and it now seeks incorporation under this authority in order to meet the difficulty that has arisen and so that it may not be necessary to wait until next year.
