Subtopic: OBJECTION TO PROLONGED ADJOURNMENT EXPRESSED IN AMENDMENT TO MOTION FOR COMMITTEE
April 9, 1935
Mr. GIROUARD (Translation):
Mr. Speaker, that is one of the reasons that lead ne to oppose the adjournment requested by ;he government. The agricultural problem of this country requires an immediate solution. This is not the time for an adjournment. On the contrary, it is the time to provide remedies and to fulfil the promises made to the farmers of the country and of the province of Quebec, particularly in regard to butter and cheese. The ex-Minister of Trade and Commerce communicated to the government in 1933 a plan to increase the price level of butter and cheese in this country. His plan was not accepted by the government. It seems to me that if the government really had the interests of the farming class at heart, they would, instead of asking for a one-month adjournment, immediately bring forward the measures required to increase the price of the principal products marketed by the farmers of Canada.
At six o'clock the house took recess.
After Recess
The house resumed at eight o'clock.
